Accupressure

Updated on March 17, 2017

Welcome to acupressure!

This page is all about the fantastic therapy that is acupressure!!

Accupressure is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) technique that treats the body as an energy system.

It works to relieve a persons individual symptoms by identifying and releasing 'blocked', or 'congested' energy centres in the body

It's non-invasive & can be done any place, any where, any time.

What happens during an acupressure treatment?

The practitioner begins a session by completing a consultation form with the client. The purpose of the form is to find out the reason for the clients visit, their medical history and to identify any contraindications to treatment.

The client is usually clothed during a treatment. They will either lie on a mat or can be treated in a seated position.

The practitioner may start with warm up strokes which are gentle friction movements to get the energy moving through the body.

He or she will then place physical pressure using their hand, elbow, foot or tool on different meridian points on the body.

What are meridians?

Accupressure identifies twelve major meridians in human body.

A meridian is a pathway for chi or life force energy throughout the system. Any break or disruption in the flow indicates an imbalance.

Acupresure is based on the belief that, an insufficient supply of chi makes a person unhealthy, sluggish and prone to illness.

It removes disruptions in the flow of chi, which restores the natural balance of the body and promotes a state of wellness.

What conditions can be treated with acupressure?

Acupressure is especially beneficial for conditions such as muscular pain, digestive disorders, frozen shoulders, backaches, slipped disc, osteoarthritis and other disorders of the tissues, bones, joints and muscles.

Acupressure is beneficial for expectant mothers and women who want to boost their fertility.

The use of acupressure on particular points helps to stimulate and balance the hormones in the body, this in turn will regulate the menstrual cycle and trigger ovulation. This will ultimately boost the fertility.

Acupressure can also be used to ease backaches during pregnancy and has been known to induce labor
